Upper Maple River Dam

The Maple-Steele Joint Water Resource District completed the Upper Maple River Dam in 2016.  It is located in Section 35 of Steele County, North Dakota.  The project consists of a dam and concrete spillway which will reduce the flood risk for roadways and cropland in the area by managing the release of water after a heavy rain event or snowmelt.   The dry dam will reduce river peaks by as much as 92 percent along some corridors of the river.

Brandt-Angus Impoundment

The Brandt-Angus impoundment is a multi-purpose off channel flood control project combining both flood control and environmental enhancement features through the Wetland Reserve Program.  It has been operational since 2012 and is located in Polk County, Minnesota.  The project directly relates to the management plan in reducing downstream flooding, improving water quality and working towards improving the natural resources of the District.
